Leo Sayer launched his career in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and he became a top singles and album act on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970s. His first seven hit singles in the United Kingdom all reached the Top 10 before they found their way to the States.

His songs have been sung by other notable artists, including Cliff Richard (“Dreaming“), Roger Daltrey, and Three Dog Night.

In 1975 Leo Sayer was an international Pop Icon. I had purchased his first album and was thrilled when he walked into the Trident. He was a huge star and was kinda thrown when he came in and no one recognized him.

While open to the public the Trident played vinyl albums continuously that were piped through the restaurant’s sound system and the effect was definitely part of the experience. One of them was Leo Sayers just when it first came out and got a lot of airplay at the Trident.

I worked at the Trident from 1974 to 1976 when it was temporarily closed before reopening almost a year later with a new crew & menu. The era covered here is 1966 to 1980 when the Trident was "Magic!" Mark Danforth Lomas 805.845.2888 MDLomas@gmail.com
