Evan’s musical journey began in 1969-1970 when he joined a band backing two different groups of Soul singers out in the San Francisco projects. Around that time Evan was invited to join a band with some extraordinarily good musicians that played original material and had real promise. The group became Shadowfax. The group did very well and played at Winterland in San Francisco, Bill Graham’s venue for putting on the biggest rock and roll acts in the world. After five years and no recording contract, the band broke up.
Soon afterward Evan would get an invitation to join Merl Saunders’s band. He sucked it up and got the gig which turned out to be a great learning experience.
Later on, Evan would join Jazz singer Randy Crawford’s band and tour with her supporting two albums she released. For Evan, these were memorable moments that he still cherishes to this day.
In 1992 Evan joined the Elvin Bishop Band and began touring the world. Evan plays on five Elvin Bishop CDs one of which won the California Music Award for Outstanding Rythm and Blues album for 2000.
In 2004 Evan was asked to play on some tracks to help complete a CD effort from another band. The artists were rhythm and blues powerhouse Lydia Pense and Cold Blood. They were so happy with his work they asked him to join the band. Evan has been playing with the band for 20 years.
Evan and his girlfriend Karin live in Northern California with three cats, four chickens, one bird, and their dog Vera Wag. Evan has four children and eight grandkids. Click the link below for an article Evan wrote about his “Trident” daze.
