Does anyone remember Thunder Hawk the Indian poet? Anyone hear about him or know of his whereabouts? Some is making a documentary on the occupation of Alcatraz and thought he would be an interesting addition to the film...he was a bit crazy but his poems were the best.
Today (Tuesday 02 August 2016) in Brussels, Belgium , I found and bought the album «Shining Hour» by the Denny Zeitlin Trio Live at the Trident! D.Z. Plays with Charlie Haden and Jerry Granelli on drum. An original release from 1965!
This trio were at the right place, at the richt moment!!! Such a refreshing music!
Greetings from Ghent, Belgium!

Having worked there in the early 70s and given the current climate, I would hope the creators of this film would give due attention to the rampantly sexist/rape culture that prevailed at the time. Frank Werber and his 16 year old girlfriend (!!). If you don't intend to focus on that stuff, you're trafficking in fairy tales.
The story for the film is fiction, and in some respects is a fairytale. About three women coming of age in the mid-seventies. If you've read the uncompleted story here (hopefully completed by the end of the month) we touch on some of what you have alluded to (sexism back then). But, it's a story not a factual documentary of the Trident. Having worked there for three years I'm well aware that there was some behavior that was highly questionable whether it came from within the people in charge, some of the employees working there, or from the cliental that frequented the place.
The story for the film is a cautionary tale. Your comment is approved here for anyone to see. If you sift through the comments and post you'll see not everyone had a positive take on the Trident, including one waitress whose run in with Bill Cosby was horrific. In regards to "the current climate," god bless all the women that have come forward as the #metoo movement evolves. The marches around the country have been amazing, and inspiring.
As a kind of "Nostalgic Website" the Trident weblog/website has tried to focus on the more interesting things that took place there. If we were to focus on the negative aspects, I'm not sure anyone would bother checking out the site. Pretty much all comments get approved here. Hopefully that allows some sort of balance. I've gotten emails from some of the people that worked there that when they arrived at work and saw a certain manager's car in the parking lot they immediately tensed up,and begrudgingly went to work.
Thanks for you comment.
My folks and I (really) dined at the Trident in 1980! I had wonderful open-faced rolled-cucumber-slice sandwich. The bread was quite special and whole sandwich really EXCELLENT! Had a strong feeling I should buy a t-shirt, but never did. Now, of course, I wish I had! Biggest Blessings, Sally
Does anyone remember Gretchen or Heidi ? Trident waitresses from early 70's ? I worked at Pine Street in the mid 70's for Gretchen ( who looked like Ali McGraw) and Heidi who founded Pine St. Bakery. I was always told that they were waitresses at the Trident where they met David Crosby who helped fund the Bakery on Pine Street in Sausalito.
Hi Laurie, I just saw your post and I also worked at Pine St. Bakery. I was the first person they hired, since we had worked at the Trident together. Also, it was Gretchen and Nancy and yes, David did finance the place. He and Gretchen dated for awhile. I don't know what happened to Nancy, but Gretchen ended up in L.A. I'm surprised that we didn't know each other from the bakery.
I remember Gretchen and Heidi. My name is Ken Beckerman, and I worked at the Trident from 1970 to 1974. I started as a dishwasher, then busboy, and lastly as kitchen manager for Pierre. I lived at 412 Johnson street with Bobby Lozoff and John Abrahms.
Hey Ken, Any chance you have some stories or photos from "back in the day" you'd like to share. All the best, Mark
I attended the memorial service for Richard Lipfield this past Saturday. There ws almost 300 people there but as far as I could see there were only 5 of us who had a connection to the trident. After huddling together we decided "would'nt it be nice to have a Trident reunion!" So let's get the world out through social media and see who is still out there
Would love to go to a Trident Reunion!!!!
I attended Richard's memorial and not surprised by the exceptional turnout! Mostly by the people he interacted with post Trident. I think I had seen him once since the "Dent" closed (as the "Dent") with no contact until he had popped up on FB a little while back. He along with Pierre (during my kitchen run) helped me realize my work ethic which I have adhered to, to this day and will continue to do so until I embrace my next great adventure as Richard has. To which I wish him all the best for eternity.
