(Left to right: Trident Alumni Jiro, Marty, Eric, and Robin Williams and Jiro with Jim Wood (Marin Magazine) at Trident

December 2020. A month ago I received a phone call from Jiro’s roommate in San Francisco that Jiro passed away sometime in October or November.

I’d like to take a moment and share what a great friend Jiro aka Melvin (as we knew him when he worked at the Trident) was.  In fact, without Jiro this website wouldn’t exist.  He supported my efforts here personally and financially from the very beginning.

At work, as in life, Jiro always had your back. Jiro had a very dry if not sometimes caustic sense of humor which was wonderfully appropriate working with him at the Trident.  He was someone you looked forward to working with.  He was also one of the more honest people you’d ever meet.  As cliche as this may sound he walked his talk and his word was his bond.

I worked at the Trident from 1974 to 1976 when it was temporarily closed before reopening almost a year later with a new crew & menu. The era covered here is 1966 to 1980 when the Trident was "Magic!" Mark Danforth Lomas 805.845.2888 MDLomas@gmail.com
