The Trident Movie?

A few years back I came up with an idea for a story, and with the help of Ed Gutekunst,  we created a tale that might work as a movie treatment for a film that reflects life back in the mid seventies in and around the Trident. The story we created is about three women coming of age … with an underlying theme about friendship, loyalty, and redemption. We’ve title it The T. The Trident’s nickname for employees “Back in the Day.”

This story is pure fiction. If you go to the “Toolbar” above and click on The Trident …a Novella you’ll be taken to the story.

Any thoughts, edits,  or ideas are appreciated. Send any comments to me at MDLomas@gmail.com Please note, we took the liberty to use actual names of people that worked there. Somehow that helped in the creative process.

If you have any connections with George Lucas, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppala, Alexander Payne, Sophie Coppala or any other similar luminaries that might want to make this story into a movie feel free to share this.

The present owner of the Trident says he’d be happy to close the restaurant to make this film which could be a lot of fun recreating Sausalito into 70s.  The fashions, hair styles, cars, and the many wild and diverse characters that defined Sausalito along the waterfront.

I worked at the Trident from 1974 to 1976 when it was temporarily closed before reopening almost a year later with a new crew & menu. The era covered here is 1966 to 1980 when the Trident was "Magic!" Mark Danforth Lomas 805.845.2888 MDLomas@gmail.com

  • Celebrated my 21st birthday at The Trident in 1974 and kept a menu as a memento. It’s been rolled up in my closet since. I decided to finally have it framed, then googled Trident and found this site. Would love to see a movie about this place and time. More cool than any establishment around today for sure.

  • As long as The Kingston Trio & Frank Werber get "in" the film somehow as past owners, who made the place "hip & cool" back in the day, and that their connection is NOT lost in this project, I'll put some $$ into it.
But first, I'll some form of reassurance.
    Cheers & Good Luck,
    TR

    • Hi Tomm,
No way to tell the story without Frank and the Trio. Plus I've gotten to know Bob Shane and Nick Reynold's son Josh (and have met both in person at the current version of the Trident). Bob and Bobby bought me lunch and gave me some brownies that I won't go into about. Oh hell, it's legal in California so what the, the brownies were really really good!
Back to the movie. Any help is appreciated. And, any chance you've read the movie treatment Ed Gutekunst and I created and any thoughts? Ed's Dad was one of the owners of Oindine's (upstairs from the Trident). The link is on the toolbar for the site. But, as I ramble on, as you already know movies can be a complicated process. Not ready to Go Fund Me online as I'd really like find a Director, Producer, Script Writers, and other Film Maker folks to see if this is doable, and fundable? I may be a dreamer but I'm not the only one. Your thoughts?
      Best,
      Mark
